HO' KEE- MELH KLOSHE LUM

Ho’-kee-melh Kloshe Lum—“to gather, good spirits”—is an Indigenous-led housing development created by the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society. Bringing nearly 170 homes and 80 shelter beds to the Downtown Eastside, the project combines affordable housing with cultural gathering spaces and community services rooted in Indigenous values.

A home for healing, culture, and community...

This is a transformative Indigenous-led housing development located at 1015 East Hastings Street in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Created by the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society in partnership with BC Housing and community organizations, the project will provide nearly 170 new homes, including affordable rental units, supportive housing, and market rentals, as well as 80 permanent shelter beds. 


envisioned as a community hub: with cultural gathering areas, social enterprise spaces like a café and bike repair shop, and programs developed with Indigenous values of healing, resilience, and connection.


Opening in late 2025, Ho’-kee-melh Kloshe Lum will serve as a place where culture, community, and belonging come together to support residents and strengthen the neighbourhood.

Affordable Housing

Ho’-kee-melh Kloshe Lum provides affordable one- to three-bedroom homes for individuals and families, guided by an Indigenous-centered approach to community and care. These homes foster connection, culture, and support — creating an environment where residents can thrive and confidently build their futures. 

Application details will be shared soon. The building will also feature shelter space and supportive transition units, available through internal referral processes.

An Indigenous-led organic tea café, our space is both a welcoming place to gather and a social enterprise dedicated to creating training, volunteer, and employment opportunities for youth and marginalized community members facing barriers to work. Grounded in Indigenous values and a deep respect for the land, we are proud to serve teas that nourish body and spirit while fostering empowerment, connection, and community well-being.

Our mission is to provide affordable, sustainable transportation while creating meaningful training and employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to work. At Klatawa Bike Shop, we refurbish donated bicycles, offer affordable repair services, and sell refurbished bikes and accessories  - all while serving as a platform for youth and marginalized community members to gain skills, experience, and employment.

Our building features dedicated ceremonial and gathering spaces designed to honor Indigenous traditions and foster community connection. These spaces provide a place for reflection, celebration, and cultural practice, welcoming everyone to participate, learn, and build meaningful connections.
