VAVPP WORKSHOP

Power Within:

Cultivating Safe Spaces, Leadership, & Responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

2026 Workshop Dates: The Power Within workshop will be held on the last Saturday of every month.

Program Overview:

Indigenous youth (14-29 years old) are invited to join a 1-day workshop to learn about gender-based violence (GBV), including what it is, how it shows up, and how to support each other.

Everyone who attends the day-long workshop will receive $100 for their participation.

This workshop is created and led by Indigenous people and is rooted in cultural values. It focuses on building leadership skills, creating space for open conversations, and learning healthy relationship skills.

The learning will be trauma-informed and use approaches like storytelling, reflection, and relationship-building. Youth will gain skills to:

  • Understand and name different kinds of harm
  • Support friends and peers in safe ways
  • Imagine and create safer, more just communities

Participants will move through 4 interactive modules with activities, group discussions, and take-home handouts to support ongoing learning.

Workshop Pillars:

  1. Understanding GBV
  2. Prevention & healthy relationships
  3. Response skills, risk mitigation, & community safety
  4. Healing, identity, & leadership
